Respected Excellencies,

We are reaching out to you with a request for an immediate meeting with a group of Montenegrin journalists and writers who solely because of the nature of their work – which is professional reporting and writing about all the anomalies of our society – are continuously exposed to attacks and threats from the increasingly repressive Montenegrin state apparatus.
The story of the investigative journalist and publicist Šeki Radončić, published on the Montenegrin web portal “Standard” (which is attached), is proof that the prosecution and the court brutally intimidate and criminalize any critical speech. By declaring six journalists and a distinguished Montenegrin writer, winners of the “Njegoš award”, part of an organized criminal group only because of professional and civil communication with former head of the Special State Prosecution Milivoje Katnić – at that time a free citizen – Montenegrin prosecutors and judges are increasingly reminiscent of those from the dark time of staged Stalinist processes. Because, if the prosecutor's office and the courts are ready to declare journalists and writers part of organized criminal groups, on the basis of obviously illegally monitored telephone communications, then what prevents them from accusing and arresting those they previously criminalized?
Very concerned about our safety, we expect you, as representatives of countries where, unlike our country, civil liberties, human rights and freedom of the media are respected, to inform us as soon as possible about the time and place of the meeting.

With regards,
Tamara Nikčević,
Draško Đuranović,
Šeki Radončić,
